The Green Belt is seriously threatened in Reigate and Banstead, Woking and Guildford because of massive housing targets set out in the draft South East Plan. Consultation on this runs until 5pm on October 24th. If you object to what's proposed please email the Government Office for the South East. Send emails to rss@gose.gsi.gov.uk by 5pm on October 24th

We thought this email, sent by a resident, made a lot of good points. You may or may not want to add in your own comments:

"I am writing in reply to the consultation on the Government's response to the Draft South East Plan. I am very worried about the effects the Government's proposals will have on the countryside and green spaces of Surrey.

In particular I object to:

Chapter 4 (11) which proposes that the hubs of Redhill, Guildford, and Woking become 'Centres of Significant Change'.
Chapter 4 (14) which identifies key locations in Surrey for Green Belt review, and puts sites currently within the Green Belt at risk.
Chapter 5 (21) which dilutes the requirement to provide necessary infrastructure.
Chapter 7 (4) which calls for significant increases in housing numbers for several Surrey Districts. For example, the target for Reigate and Banstead has been increased from 387 new homes each year to 562. This total is wholly unsustainable and will ruin the environment and people's quality of life.

I urge the Government to revise the South East Plan so that it can deliver truly sustainable development rather than threatening the Green Belt and countryside of Surrey."
